We want you to experience what it is really like to be a lawyer. This means including you in every aspect of the legal work we’re involved with, from attending mediations to observing ground-breaking commercial deals as they unfold. We deliberately limit our summer clerk numbers to ensure you get real opportunities to participate as a true member of the team.
As a full service commercial law firm, we have a wide variety of practice areas. You will get the opportunity to work in two teams as a summer clerk; based on your own preferences.
During your summer with the firm, you will be given a tailored training programme, including:
-
An overview of the business
-
An introduction to each division
-
Working with a secretary
-
Technology training in all of our systems
-
Research Skills
-
Writing Skills
-
Presentation Skills
-
Listening Skills
Our commitment to your learning and development doesn’t stop there!
We have a comprehensive graduate development programme, taking our graduate law clerks through everything from contract issues, receiverships, liquidity & solvency, to witnessing affidavits, how to be a good junior lawyer and how to write legal opinions. All staff have the opportunity to keep their legal education up-to-date by attending relevant: Our MentorME programme is available to all staff. Mentors and mentees are carefully matched across practice groups to give staff an opportunity to receive objective mentoring away from reporting lines. Our mentoring programme is instrumental in building networks and relationships within the firm. Minter Ellison Rudd Watts is committed to developing staff at all stages of their career. To make this possible, we have a Professional Development Manager, Jo Hudson, as part of our Human Resources team. Jo’s role includes assisting all staff to reach their full potential by providing relevant training, learning and development opportunities. Jo will be coming along to many of our recruitment functions, so you may well get the chance to chat with her further about professional development as a summer clerk, law clerk and beyond.
